Hungarian Warm Bacon & Potato Salad

What's The Big Idea?

This is a hearty, filling dish that makes a great accompaniement to Hungarian sausages - or as part of a buffet-style meal or barbecue.

Shopping List

Here's the list of what you need:

  • 8 whole red potatoes, washed and peeled
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 4oz bacon, diced
  • 3 tablespoons vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

What To Do

  • Cook the potatoes in boiling water until tender
  • Slice and place in mixing bowl
  • Heat the oil in a frying pan and fry the bacon until almost crisp. Remove from the pan and add to the bowl with the potato slices
  • Add the onion to the frying pan and fry for 5 minutes. Remove from the pan and add to the mixing bowl
  • Stir the flour into the fat left in the frying pan until smooth. Stir in the vinegar, sugar and salt, and enough water to make a medium sauce
  • Bring to a boil and cook until sauce is thickened. Pour over ingredients in mixing bowl, and mix well
