Brazilian Barbecued Beef Tenderloin:

What's the big idea?

As stated elsewhere on this site, Brazilians love to barbecue. A Brazilian BBQ can turn into an all-day affair, with mountains of beef and pork being slowly cooked over a huge open fire while large quantities of cold beer are consumed. With large cuts of meat, it is quite common for each guest to have a sharp knife and to trim cooked meat from the joint as it is cooking, leaving the rare meat behind on the barbecue to continue cooking. You can do this with this recipe, if you want, or just wait for the steaks to be cooked all the way through.

Shopping List

Here's the list of what you need:

  • 2lb beef tenderloin, cut into large steaks
  • 1 clove of garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons salt

What To Do

  • Mix together the lemon juice, garlic, and half the salt
  • Coat the beef with this mixture, cover and refrigerate. Leave to marinate overnight
  • Pre-heat your grill or barbecue
  • Mix the remaining salt into a cup of warm water
  • Grill or barbecue slowly until cooked to your liking, basting with salty water to prevent it from drying out
